About the elementary school (Age 6 - 11)

Teaching cycles

Primary education lasts for eight years – three years of kindergarten followed by five years of elementary school – and is structured into three cycles. Organising this education into cycles allows teachers to work as a team and introduce greater flexibility in the progression of the different stages of learning.

Cycle 1
Early learning

Kindergarten

Cycle 2
Fundamental learning

CP - CE1 - CE2

Cycle 3
Consolidation

CM1 - CM2 - 6e

Cycle 2 | 6-9 years

CP : cours préparatoire (introductory class) ; CE1 : cours élémentaire première année (first year primary class) & CE2 : cours élémentaire deuxième année (second year primary class)

The fundamental learning cycle focuses on reading, writing, arithmetic and various activities to stimulate awareness.

Cycle 3 | 9-11 years

CM1 : cours moyen première année (upper primary first year ) & CM2 : cours moyen deuxième année (upper primary second year)

The early learning cycle allows children to develop through a variety of discoveries and experiences. A teaching assistant is always present in class to help the teacher.

Language learning

Given the multilingual nature of life in Luxembourg, language learning is one of Vauban’s key priorities. From Petite Section in kindergarten, children are offered an introduction to Luxembourgish and English.

From elementary school, families are offered pathways centred on the different languages taught at the school.

The teaching objectives are defined beyond the official French educational directives and in accordance with the broad guidelines of AEFE.
