Vauban, École et Lycée Français de Luxembourg is a nonprofit institution, legally managed by the parents’ association “Vauban – École et Lycée Français de Luxembourg.”
This governance structure allows families to participate in the school’s strategic direction and decision-making, and to actively engage in its life, serving the students and the educational community.
The Association is governed by a Board of Directors (BoD). The BoD is a decision-making body that defines Vauban’s strategic plan and sets its major policy directions. It reports on its activities at the Annual General Meeting and delegates day-to-day management to the Executive Management. It is composed of:
who hold the status of members, “parent directors,” elected individually from a list of “parent director” candidates for a three-year term at the general meeting.
who are members or honorary members (excluding legal entities serving as honorary members) and whose candidacy is proposed by the outgoing Board of Directors, elected individually from a list of “Experienced Directors” for a three-year term at the general meeting. These directors must bring specific experience or expertise to the association.

1. Why is it important for families to take an interest in Vauban’s governance?
Because Vauban is a school run by a parents’ association. As families, we have a role to play in understanding how it operates, staying informed about current and upcoming projects, and participating in decisions that affect our children’s daily lives and future. Taking an interest in school governance means actively contributing to the school’s quality, stability, and development.
2. As a parent, what specific benefits does the management association offer me?
Being a member of the association gives you greater insight into Vauban’s strategic direction, educational initiatives, investments, and future challenges. It’s also an opportunity to participate in key events in the school’s life, particularly the General Assembly, and to have a say in major decisions.
3. Why attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM)?
The Annual General Meeting is a key event in the school’s calendar. It allows families to:

4. How can I check my status or register as a member of the management association?

5. When does the General Meeting take place, and how is it conducted?
The Annual General Meeting is held each year between April and June and brings together all members of the association. All members receive an invitation along with preparatory documents, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the topics to be discussed in advance.

6. Why is it important to vote in Board of Directors elections?
The vote allows families to choose the parents who will represent them on the Board of Directors. A high voter turnout strengthens the Board of Directors’ legitimacy and enhances the quality of dialogue between families, the administration, and the governing bodies.
7. Who is eligible to run for the position of parent representative on the board of directors?
Any parent of a student who is a member of the Vauban Parent-Teacher Association may run for office, provided they meet the eligibility requirements set forth in Article 6 of the association’s bylaws.
8. Why become a parent representative ?
Becoming a parent trustee means making a tangible contribution to Vauban’s development and future by putting your skills, experience, and energy to work for the school.
The profiles and areas of expertise are intentionally diverse (finance, law, human resources, CSR, risk management, education, pedagogical innovation, knowledge of the Luxembourg environment, real estate, etc.), in order to enrich collective thinking and support the educational, operational, and environmental strategies defined in close collaboration with the Administration.
9. Does becoming a parent representative require a lot of time and commitment?
Serving as a parent board member requires regular availability, primarily to participate in governance meetings and certain key events in the school’s calendar, as summarized on this page.
Beyond the time commitment, this role relies on essential qualities: a sense of the common good, integrity, the ability to listen and engage in dialogue, sound judgment, tact, and a long-term commitment. Each board member contributes actively and constructively, in a spirit of cooperation with other members and the administration.
10. How do I apply to join the Board of Directors?
Applications must be submitted by the date specified in the call for applications, which has been sent to all members of the management association, via email to: electionsCA@vauban.lu. The application package includes:
11. What is the role of the Board of Directors once it has been elected?
The Board of Directors sets Vauban’s strategic direction, oversees the school’s management, and delegates day-to-day management to the administration. It acts in the best interests of the students and their families and reports on its activities at the Annual General Meeting.
Primary Council
The Primary Council is a consultative body for communication and discussion, where information about primary school life and new educational initiatives is shared with the school’s various stakeholders, particularly the parents.
The Primary Council is informed by the management team about the pedagogical organisation of classes and cycles, the choice of teaching materials and the arrangements for parent-teacher meetings.
It comprises:
- members with voting rights: the Head of Primary, who chairs the Primary Council; four staff representatives; four parent representatives; the adviser for cooperation and cultural affairs, and the French national education inspector all participate in the meetings as of right.
- members with consultative rights: may attend Primary Council meetings, and where matters concern them, a member of the Board of Governors, as well as any person invited by the Head of Primary whose contribution is considered useful in relation to the agenda.
School Council
This body, specific to French schools abroad, brings together representatives from the entire school community: parents, pupils, teachers and administrative staff, along with the Chair of the Board of Governors, the cultural adviser and the councillors for French citizens abroad.
It is a key forum for communication and consultation within the entire school, where ideas and information are exchanged and decisions are made to ensure the well-being of the school community.
Committee for Health, Citizenship and Environmental Education (CESCE)
Chaired by the Head of School, this committee forms part of the school’s overall leadership. It contributes to citizenship education, prepares the health and violence prevention plan, proposes initiatives to support parents in difficulty and combat exclusion, and defines a programme for health and sex education as well as the prevention of risky behaviour.
The committee is made up of the school’s educational, social and health staff, together with parent, student and teaching staff representatives.
High School Life Council (CVL)
The High School Life Council (CVL) is chaired by the Head of School and brings together elected student representatives, members of staff and parents. The council meets to discuss and make proposals on all aspects of daily school life and encourage student participation in collective initiatives, such as the open day, the education fair, support for charitable associations, etc.
Middle School Life Council (CVC)
The Middle School Life Council (CVC) is a forum for dialogue and exchange between students elected by their peers and members of the educational community. Together, they develop projects that promote positive coexistence and improve students’ material living conditions within the school (such as the layout and organisation of work and social spaces).
High School Students’ Association (MDL)
The Maison des lycéens (MDL) is an association for high school students. It takes part in school life and organises numerous collective, festive and solidarity-based events throughout the school year, such as the carnival and the baccalauréat graduation ceremony.
Eco-Representatives
Eco-delegates are ambassadors for sustainable development within the school. Open to all volunteer students from CM1 through Terminale, they actively participate in implementing and monitoring eco-friendly projects.

Shared values, consistent work expectations, communication, dialogue and transparency: working together with families is central to our school’s success.
Each year, a back-to-school information meeting and a meeting between parents and the teachers of each class are organised. Attendance is strongly recommended.
At primary school, children should always keep their homework diary in their school bag. Parents may request a meeting with teachers or the primary management team at any time by e-mail.
Pupils’ academic results are communicated to parents twice a year (end of February and end of June). They can be accessed via the ‘Restricted area’ , a portal accessible only with a personal access code sent to the e-mail address provided by families.
Parents meet with teachers several times a year and can contact them directly. They can also get involved in the secondary school’s governance bodies or the parents’ association. The school organises a variety of events, such as discussion sessions and themed meetings.
It also provides families with communication and academic monitoring tools via their ‘Restricted area’ (e.g. Pronote).
The school promotes a culture of dialogue and ensures that parents are well informed. Interaction between parents and the school is facilitated through parents’ associations in particular.
