High school (Age 16 - 18)

Teaching cycles

After acquiring the common core of knowledge, skills and culture, students continue their education at high school, where over three years they prepare for the general or technological baccalauréat, as well as for their progression to higher education.

This demanding and formative cycle engages the entire educational community in providing individualised support for each student.  Our teaching and educational teams ensure that every student is supported in shaping their pathway, taking into account their aspirations, needs and potential.

The fundamental objective is to enable every high school student to achieve their full potential. This is reflected in the close attention paid to each individual, the implementation of support or enrichment measures, and the promotion of initiatives such as interdisciplinary projects, cultural or scientific encounters, collective experiences and educational trips, which enrich our students’ education and nurture their ambitions.

Consolidation of the common core and preparation for choices

Preparation for specialisation

1ère - Terminale

The middle and high school curriculum

Seconde

General principles

  • Enable students to consolidate their mastery of the common core of knowledge, skills and culture in order to successfully transition from middle school to high school.
  • Support students in preparing to choose a pathway within the final cycle leading to the general or technological baccalauréat, with the aim of successful progression to higher education and, beyond that, to their professional integration.

What changes

  • Harmonised weightings: all subjects are weighted equally (coefficient 1)
  • One or two options of the student’s choice from among the language and/or arts subjects

For the specific sections

  • German or British international sections
  • German, English or Italian European sections

The expectations of Seconde

To succeed in general and technological Seconde, students need to:

  • Take an interest in ideas, knowledge and culture, enjoy thinking, reasoning and arguing, and be curious about current affairs, their environment and the wider world;
  • Have a sufficient level of achievement at the end of 3e in the different subjects, with a solid command of fundamental knowledge and skills;
  • Be able to work regularly each evening and at certain times at the weekend;
  • Know how to organise their work independently;
  • Although teaching in Seconde builds on what is taught in 3e (French, mathematics, history & geography, etc.), the programmes are more demanding, the pace of work is faster and the methods of learning are different.

The choice of LVA and LVB must be made at the time of re-enrolment and will remain final until Terminale.

  • For their LVA, students can choose between English or German.
  • For their LVB, students can choose between English, German, Italian or Spanish.
